ZZ2 driver trainer’s son wins ICT competition in China

A ZZ2 truck driver’s son has achieved top honours in an international ICT competition that was recently hosted in Shenzen, China.

James Shibambu (64), a ZZ2 stalwart in our Transport Department, is the proud father of Fumani Sacks Shibambu (23), a Computer Science Engineering graduate from Tshwane University of Technology. Fumani is currently employed by Huawei Technology in Sandton.

ICT (information and communications technology – or technologies) is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application, encompassing radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems, as well as the various services and applications.

Fumani’s employer gave selected employees the opportunity to write a test on ICT knowledge. He emerged as the number one candidate and Huawei entered him as one of three members as a team from Africa. In Shenzen they competed against teams from 28 countries where Fumani walked away with top honours in the Huawei ICT Academy 2016-2017 ICT Skills Competition.

Fumani grew up in Giyani and went to Famanda High School.

“This is just the beginning of my journey, and to me, this achievement means changing to a higher gear, which means I want now go to the next level,” says Fumani.

ZZ2 is with James proud of Fumani’s achievements.
